GP Registrar Click for Staff Photos
Our practice is a training/teaching practice. Dr Mark Williams has responsibility for each registrar whilst they are with the practice. Our registrars are fully qualified doctors and have hospital experience. Registrars are attached to our practice for a period of six months and patients find their fresh, enthusiastic approach adds to the health care we provide. The registrars usually become general practitioner partners after completing their training, and are at all times encouraged to seek advice when required from the practice partners.

When booking an appointment you may be asked if you would like to see the Registrar; we are confident they will give our patients modern, effective and caring treatment.

Our current Registrar is Dr Iain  Marshall who will be with us between February and August 2008.

Student Doctors
From September 2006 we will be helping with the training of medical students from Hull-York Medical School (HYMS). Students will be nearing the final stages of their training and will already have considerable experience of talking to patients in other surgeries and hospitals.

Practice Manager Click for Staff Photos
Mr Richard Gregory is the Practice Manager and he is responsible for the administration of the practice. He would be happy to hear your views and suggestions about the service offered by the practice.

Reception Staff
Receptionists need to be friendly, helpful and supportive which at times makes it a very difficult, demanding and exacting job. Please take this into consideration. We will always do our best to accommodate patients if queries arise. We are extremely fortunate to have excellent staff working for the benefit of the patients and the practice.

The receptionists will assist you in making appointments to see your doctor, organise repeat prescriptions, answer numerous and varied questions and offer help and assistance at all times. If, when calling to make an appointment the receptionists ask you the nature of the problem, this is intended to ensure you are given an appointment with the most appropriate clinician, and not because the receptionist is being 'nosey'.

Practice Nurses Click for Staff Photos
Sister Sue Harris leads our team of Practice Nurses that consists of; Sister's Claire Thomas, Catherine Lambert, Emma Smith, Louise Stead & Lesley Masterman. Between them their many skills include running clinics to monitor asthma, diabetes, hypertension and heart disease in addition to conducting vaccinations/immunisations, travel Clinics, wound care, smear taking & ear syringing.

The nurses regularly undertake professional development and consequently are each able to offer differing skills. In order that you can be directed to the most appropriate Practice Nurse for your problem, it is very helpful if you feel able to give the receptionist some indication of the nature of the problem. The receptionist is then able to ensure neither your time, nor that of the nurses is inappropriately used.

The nurses are usually available to offer advice over the telephone between 11.30 am and 12.00 noon. However if they are busy at the time you telephone, they will always return your call at the earliest opportunity.

Community Team
In addition to the practice-based team, we also have a number of experienced community based staff who althiyugh not employed by us, work very closely with us. The District Nurses and Health Visitors are employed by North Yorkshire & York Primary Care Trust, the midwife is employed by York Acute Trust.

District Nurses:
Senior Community Staff Nurse, Natalie Bennett, manages the District Nursing Team. The team of four consist of, Gaynor Whitton, Ann Brown, Fran Scarr and Eileen Spence. They provide a wide range of services within the home environment. They can be contacted via District Nurse referrals on 01904 - 627635.

The District Nurses will ONLY visit patients who are HOUSEBOUND. A patient is deemed to be housebound when they are unable to leave their home environment through a physical and/or psychological illness.  A patient is NOT house bound if he or she is able to leave their home environment with minimal assistance.

Health Visitors:
Mary McClure, Wendy Wood, Lorraine Monkhouse, Gill Gibbon & Pam Morley form the team of Health Visitors/Nursery Nurses. They are all experienced nurses and their role comprises preventative care and the early detection of health problems. They are able to work holistically with all age groups, although the majority of their work in the practice is with young families. Each family with children under the age of 5 will have a named Health Visitor and will have easy access to the Health Visiting Service.

The Health Visitors also undertake routine child development checks and child immunisations. They work closely with the GP's, Community Midwife, District Nursing Team, Practice Nurses and School Health Nurses. In addition to their role in the Practice, the Health Visitors are actively involved in the wider community as part of their involvement in public health and local initiatives (e.g. accident prevention). They are also involved in antenatal education classes in conjunction with local Community Midwives. Well baby clinics are held regularly by the Health Visitors at the surgeries in Selby, Carlton and Riccall.

All our Health Visitors are Nurse Prescribers, which means that they can prescribe from the current Nurses Formulary to patients they have direct contact with.

The Health Visitors can be contacted on 01904 - 724838 between 9.00 am and 10.00 am and 4.00 - 5.00 pm Monday to Friday (answer machine at all other times).
